BlogsRunning Maps with GoogleThe USA Track and Field association has a wonderful mapping tool available on their website. The Running Routes tool allows you to map out custom running (or biking / walking / rollerblading) routes using Google Maps. The tool allows you to zoom into street and trail level views that give you easy access to any route you can imagine. You aren't limited to streets. You can also save the routes for later use. Eric Schmidt on Charlie RoseCharlie Rose interviews are avialable for free (at present) on Google Video. Many of these interviews are very engaging. One of the most interesting episodes I've seen is an interview with Eric Schmidt, the CEO of Google. Schmidt is incredibly insightful and provides some very thoughtful responses to questions regarding the all aspects of the internet. Watching this video was time well spent. Web2Teach - Resources for K12 TeachersI've recently developed a site entitled Web2Teach that is intended to provide a small number of high quality resource sites for teachers. One goal is to identify the best sites available for teachers. To identify the most valuable sites available, I'm using the social bookmarking site Delicious. By looking for tags such as k12, education, lessons and content terms (e.g., science, biology, cells) I'm able to get a good sense of what teachers are finding useful. Another goal of the site is to provide some specific pages that teachers can use to address more immediate needs. For example, if a teacher is looking for some materials for a unit on matter, first they must find a good science site, then search for applicable materials. Using Delicious and tagging should enable me to provide a much more efficient mechanism to support this type of search. |
